Auto repair business owner charged with operating auto repair shop

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police say the owner of an auto repair shop in Binghampton does more than just fix cars at the Summer Avenue business.

The MPD said its auto theft task force discovered a repair shop at Sal’s Tire and Complete Automotive Repair on Thursday and arrested 60-year-old Salvador Guevara Reyes.

Investigators said they found numerous vehicles in various stages of disrepair, 65 stripped engines, stripped transmissions, stripped doors, stripped nuts and bolts.

At least four of the vehicles have been identified as having been stolen between February 12, 2019 and August 19, 2022.

Police said Reyes admitted he was the sole owner of the tire and repair shop and bought two of the stolen cars from a towing company.

Sal’s Tire and Complete Automotive Repair was operating as usual on Friday, but employees said they had no comment on their boss’ arrest.

Reyes was charged with theft of property and violation of chop shop law. A company manager was also arrested, but so far has not been charged with anything.

Reyes was released on his own recognizance. He is due to appear before a judge on September 26.
