The former Jim & Jim’s Auto Shop site at 1724 27th Court South will soon be reinvigorated with a new facade and new tenants, starting with a brand new Cahaba Cycles bicycle shop and service center. Cahaba Cycles will expand its growing suite of locations in the Birmingham area, moving its Homewood store to 1724 27th Court South.

Local commercial real estate company Shannon Waltchack is leading the redevelopment with construction management by Capital Program Management, LLC. The owner of Cahaba Cycles, Faris Malki, and Tim Coker of CPM are also partners / owners of the deal.

The new store will give Cahaba Cycles a new space to try out new concepts and add to their customer experience. For example, Malki will partner with Domestique Coffee to launch a new breakfast / coffee bar concept in their new space to serve the Homewood community. With many active neighbors nearby, guests are welcome to grab a coffee and / or a quick breakfast after their workout, bike, or run. In addition to the bike shop and cafe, Malki’s new location will also include a covered community space up front with benches and tables for meeting with friends in the neighborhood.

“We are delighted to launch the development of our new Homewood store. This new location will bring together the great service our customers have come to love with the ability to implement new ideas that we have been cultivating over the years. We look forward to enhancing the cycling community in Homewood with excellent service, top notch product, premium coffee and craft beers on tap in the near future, ”said Malki.

The redevelopment will have two more retail areas for rent after the body shop relocates. Jim & Jim’s is currently open and operational until they move later this year. The location has prime visibility at the key intersection of Homewood, where Central Avenue and 18th Street South meet. The high traffic corner is across from the new Valley Hotel and Edgar Bakery. SW Broker Michael Murray, CCIM is currently looking for additional tenants to lease the remaining arrays, 7,775 SF and 5,750 SF. The suites are fully customizable with options for tenants.

“SW is proud to have a well-known and respected Homewood retailer as a partner in this redevelopment effort. Cahaba Cycles is the flagship tenant we were looking for, with its established brand and many subscribers. We are excited about the potential of the remaining spaces, ”said Murray.
