LAX’s new Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) facility is nearing completion after the structure was completed with the last of 233,000 cubic meters of concrete poured since the land began in 2019, according to a communicated.

Completion of the ConRAC installation took place in the Idle Storage building, one of three structures that make up the approximately 6.4 million square foot facility. LAX is the second largest car rental market for all domestic airports (as of 2019), and this new facility will make the car rental experience easier for the hundreds of thousands of travelers who hire cars each year.
The ConRAC facility will consolidate several car rental companies currently spread across the LAX area into one convenient location, and connect to the central LAX terminal area via the Automated People Mover train system, which is also under construction. Once the train opens, it will replace rental car shuttles and cut approximately 3,200 daily shuttle trips from the busy terminal area and surrounding roads.
The installation is being developed within the framework of a public-private partnership (P3) with LAX ConRAC Partners (LAXCP). It will house more than 18,000 rental vehicles, including Ready Return and Idle Storage. It will also feature a Quick Turn Around building, allowing light vehicle maintenance such as refueling, car washing, oil changes and tire rotation. The Quick Turn Around building will also help reduce traffic congestion by keeping operations within the facility’s footprint and not on city streets.
The ConRAC facility is a key component of LAX’s $ 5.5 billion Land Access Modernization Program (LAMP), which will improve access to LAX, provide new support options / drop-off for travelers and will provide the long-awaited connection to regional transport. .
The project is also the second of two design-build-finance-operate-maintain public-private partnerships at LAX. The contract is valued at around $ 2 billion over 28 years and creates pipelines for local workers. The facility aims to achieve the required Silver rating in Energy and Environmental Design Leadership (LEED) with elements such as native drought tolerant landscaping, reclaimed water use and a farm solar, generating more than 8,400 megawatt hours per year.
