Tips to keep your car as fuel efficient as possible

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) — With gas prices rising and the seasons changing, now is the time of year to get your car checked to make sure it’s running smoothly.

According to AAA, there are several things you can do to make sure you don’t overspend at the pump.

The first thing to do is to make sure your car is up to date with maintenance, which means there are no overdue oil changes or upgrades.

Then, AAA recommends keeping your gas level above a quarter tank. This is because the car’s fuel pump will run more efficiently and stay cooler with more fuel in the tank.

More importantly, experts say to keep an eye on your tires, especially as the seasons change.

“Make sure your tires aren’t deflated, make sure they’re inflated to the correct amount on the label right next to the driver’s side door,” the AAA spokesperson said, John Treanor. “It’s going to really improve your fuel efficiency, because if your car’s tires are underinflated, you run the risk of blowing the tire or reducing your fuel economy.”

There are several places to check and make sure your tire pressure is at the correct PSI. The car’s interior frame on the driver’s side door and the owner’s manual are in two places, but if that doesn’t work, your car’s auto shop will know.
